Searchable lists of aquarium plants

If googling a plant name offers more chances to buy it than information you're seeking, some search engines and other features dedicated to aquatic plants might be more helpful to you.

**Tropica, the Danish-based importers of new discoveries from tropical waters, who supply the sophisticated European aquarium market, pioneered growing plants in rock-wool. Since 1993 they have been delivering plants grown attached to bogwood roots and to porous Icelandic lava. Currently they aren't allowed to export plants to the USA— to the great relief of our Florida fish farmers. The Tropica site has a Plant Database arranged by scientific name of the plants. If you're unsure of the name, Tropica has good colored botanical drawings that make identification more secure than most photographs.

*The Internet's first search engine for aquatic plants, assembled by Soren Reinke, links to the Tropica site.

Try the search engine at the Aquatic-Plants Digest archive, using the scientific name of the plant you're interested in, or even just its genus, provided it's not a big complicated one like Cryptocoryne.

If you know the plant's scientific name and want some pics, the University of Florida's Aquatic Plant Information Retrieval System may be able to help. The site also hosts the Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants
